Yim Viriya, Executive Director, Clear Cambodia

Coming out of the refugee camps set up during the Khmer Rouge, Viriya helped to start a safe water program helping vulnerable women and their children. This program led to the founding of a local organization called Clear Cambodia, and has expanded now to impact hundreds of thousands of people throughout Cambodia.

Teklewoini Assefa Executive Director, R.E.S.T.

Teklewoini is a founding member of the Relief Society of Tigray (REST), a grassroots local organization that has been working in Tigray for more than 30 years. Today, REST is the largest operating NGO in the Tigray region where it continues to implement thousands of water projects and integrated community development programs.

Kanupirya Harish Executive Director, Jal Bhagirathi Foundation

Kanupriya has been working with the Jal Bhagirathi Foundation since 2004. Her early years were spent working in program implementation and management, and she's served as the foundation's executive director since 2014. Today the Jal Bhagirtahi Foundation continues to expand it's reach in the Thar Desert, bringing clean water to hundreds of thousands of people living in the most densely populated arid zone in the world.

Why work with local partners?

We know that investing in local expertise is the best way to create long-term impact. Our partners have the years of experience and local knowledge to deliver the best water projects... one community at a time. While charity: water raises awareness and funds, our partners drill through bedrock, protect springs, and mobilize communities every day.

How do you choose partners?

We make sure that our partners have top-notch experience and expertise. Our teams spend weeks at a time with partners in the field to make sure they have the skills and resources to deliver high quality, sustainable projects to communities in need and report back on every dollar they spend.

What is your relationship with partners?

Without our partners around the world and their thousands of dedicated staff, charity: water’s work would not be possible. Our Water Programs team communicates with our partners every day to track progress and troubleshoot challenges that come up. During our frequent visits to the field, our partners are visiting communities with us.

What does charity: water expect from partners?

Our partners share our vision of solving the water crisis in our lifetime. They are dedicated to providing safe, sustainable water access to communities in need and to making sure those communities gain knowledge of the hygiene and sanitation practices that will make them healthier. We expect our partners to work closely with local communities, leaders, governments, mechanics, and suppliers to accomplish lasting change.
